Dear Jami,
It might be surprising for you that I decided to join the New York marathon this year. I will go to New York close to the race. It would be wonderful to meet you in Connecticut after the race.
The race is going to take place 6 months later from now. I made my training plan for the race the other day. Let me introduce to you my plan for the race.
I am going to run 2-4 days in a week up until three weeks beforehand. After that, I will try a half marathon (20-km) at my own pace. Then, I will focus on stretching and walking to recover my body for three days.
Two weeks before the race, I will to try 10-km run at faster pace. And then, I will reduce my training time around 70-80%.
One week before the race, I am going to reduce the time of running until 50-70% to get rid of fatigue in my body. I am going to take total day off before the race day.
This is my training plan for attending New York Marathon. If you have any advice, please let me know. I am looking forward to meeting you after the race.

jump the gun = to be hasty, to do something sooner than you should

scratch someone’s back = to return a favor

He often hits the ceiling, so everybody scratches his back so they don’t get into trouble with him.  As a result, he often jumps the gun on important issues because he doesn’t get correct information, on account of too much back scratching.

fork over = to hand over, give (you usually don’t want to)

Many people are forking over consumer tax that has risen from 5% to 8% recently.

Movie Review "Contact"

Contact was based on Carl Sagan’s best seller Science Fiction novel, which was directed by Robert Zemeckis and starred by Judie Foster. Carl Sagan was an actual astronomer who introduced his scientific knowledge in a big hit TV and book series called Cosmos. In this 1997 film, he combined scientific findings and his fantasy about outer space.

The main theme of the story was: Are we alone in the universe? What is science? What is religion? These main topics were connected to some sub-topics such as his dearly departed father, his daughter's love, academic harassment, fanatic cults, romance and the status of religion in American society.

In this movie which was released in 1997, these interesting themes were described in beautiful and lyrical images. I couldn’t leave the seat for a while even after the movie was over because I was totally overwhelmed by this film.

Rock generation expanded to seniors.

Nowadays, rock and roll music has become one of the most popular music genres which means that famous rock bands go on stadium concert tours more often. They have become very prominent social events like the Paul McCartney concert that I went to in November two years ago.

Before the day of the concert in my town of Fukuoka, Sir Paul McCartney went to watch Sumo Wrestling. 20 years ago, when he made his first visit to Fukuoka, he also went to the same sumo wrestling venue to see this traditional Japanese sport. At that time, most of the audience knew him but some of them were not fans of Paul's music. However, this time, many people in the audience shouted, “Paul, Paul, Paul!" and clapping their hands like the audience in a rock concert. This instance shows how the rock generation nowadays expands to all walks of life in Japan. As Paul McCartney has reached his 70’s in age, the first rock generation have become senior citizens.

Moreover, the concert gig that Paul held was in a big indoor baseball stadium. I saw a lot of different ages in the audience: from middle school students to men and women in their 70’s. When the Beatles came to Japan, many students and teachers from schools were banned from going to the concert. Even then, some young stars secretly went to the concert as if they were delinquent kids.

However, now, people from all walks of life love rock music and some Beatles songs are sung in music classes in Japanese schools. Therefore, this time, parents might have brought their children along to Paul’s concert to enjoy the music and the memories.

In my opinion, interesting cultural and social movements are born in the margins of the society, and then, once it becomes popular, it becomes part of the mainstream movement. The culture and society of a country develop in such a cycle.

In your previous Email, you asked me about how to update TO Windows 10 AND about my impression about it.

If you didn’t book THE UPDATE, go to Microsoft’S web site. The link for updating is available there. In my case, I updated some computers by using this direct link because THE UPDATE availability notification didn’t come so soon after it was released.

Some people say that Windows 10 caused some problem on their PCS but on my PCs, it works better than Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. I could solve THE video freezing problem on Verbling. And the low spec old pc sped up again and THE interface is much easier to control than Windows 8.1.

Before you UPDATE, make sure your PC’s CPU and memory is high enough for using Windows 10. And just in case IT DOESN’T work well, it is better to backup your important files.

A dog in commercials

The dog called Kai-kun is the most popular dog these days because of a mobile phone carrier’s commercials. His role in this commercial series is a father of a family. The other family members are humans but only he is a dog. And he talks like a father and acts like a father of this family.

One day, he is shooting the commercial for summer season. Therefore, the commercial location was set at the beach. However, going to the beach and spending a long time shooting on location is too hard for a dog, so he was acting in a studio set.

In the studio, there was a jet ski was in front of a large green screen because an actual ocean image will be added to this studio scene. Although he couldn't understand what it is, he obeyed his master when he told him to get on a bike

Even though he doesn't know what he is doing, he is a mature dog actor who has a lot of experience. The film shooting was done on schedule. This summer series commercial was aired this summer.

Movie critic "Contact"

One of my all time favorite movies is Contact, which is based on Carl Sagan’s novel. I would like to explain about this movie and its theme in this essay.

         The author Carl Sagan was an astrologist who introduced his knowledge to ordinary people in his bestseller book and popular TV series Cosmos. And then, in this novel and movie, he described his view of the universe with his scientific knowledge plus imagination.

In the movie / reflecting on the movie / Talking about the movie, Jodie Foster was casted as a protagonist in this film/the protagonist of this film, who is searching for ET’s through radio waves coming from outer space. One day, she finally received one radio wave from an ET and in the radio wave, she found/discovered the formula for how to create a warp machine to go deep inside the universe.

This film consists of many elements. Main themes would be, “Are we alone in the universe? What is science? What is religion? And do these main topics connect to sub-topics like academic harassment, fanatic cults, family love and romance, etc.?

These themes and subtopics described in the film create enthralling/riveting/incredible/ecstatic/fantastical/really beautiful images and interesting/thought provoking story line. Actually, after I watched this film, I was overwhelmed and couldn’t leave my seat for awhile. It was the most amazing/mind blowing/ film that I have ever watched.
