Generation Gap

My parents’ generation grew up with wars and rebuilding after the Second World War and we were born into the world during a high growth period in the Japanese economy. I will write some important difference between these two generations in this short essay.

Since my parents generation suffered from hunger during wartime and after the war, their attitude about/regarding food is completely different from my generation. They have a strong sense of guilt when they waste food. Therefore my mother never allowed me to be a fussy eater. I had to eat anything she prepared on the table. It was a bit hard for a small kid, however thanks to that, I could overcome eating carrots or some other ingredients which I hated to eat. Therefore, I am not a fussy eater at all now. They grew up in a period of strong wartime nationalism, so they had a strong nationalistic feeling in general but children who were born after the war couldn’t understand such extreme nationalism, which included worship of the emperor. This nationalism and generation gap was one of many factors influencing students of the 60’s to harshly move against their authorities.

In this essay, I discussed some important generation gaps between my parents and my generation. The shadow of the wars was hugely/largely influential in causing this generation gap.
