The History of Rock Music

Today, I’d like to teach you rock and roll history. Rock music was born in the US in the early 50’s. It is said that rock has some roots (for example, blues and bluegrass). In the late 40’s some African-American artists began to release music called rhythm and blues. After that, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and some other artists connected some American roots music to create rock and roll. And then, Elvis Presley's breakthrough was a viral influence to teenagers’ lives. In the 1960’s, after the surf rock boom, the big rock wave came from Britain with the Beatles. They brought some European elements into rock music. The Beatle mania phenomenon gave huge impact to young stars’ fashion and lifestyle. After the Beatles craze, rock developed into a lot of different types: psychedelic rock, folk rock, progressive rock, glam rock, hard rock, punk rock, new wave, etc. In the 20th century, rock was not only the music but also a cutting-edge vehicle to lead the society in a somewhat radical way (as is currently happening with IT revolutions changing our lifestyles and societies).
